Britain's wheelchair rugby team meet Leicester City players ©Quad Nations

Members of Britain's wheelchair rugby team have been on a tour of Leicester City's training ground ahead of the Wheelchair Rugby Quad Nations tournament.

Returning for a third edition, the Quad Nations will feature three teams this year - Britain, Australia and the United Sates.

King Power, the principle sponsor of the Quad Nations, also owns Leicester City.

Players Chris Ryan, Nick Cummins, Jamie Stead and Jim Roberts - along with head coach Paul Shaw and team manager Lee Stutely - were given a tour of the Foxes' Belvoir Drive facility.

"We had a really good tour of their facilities," Roberts said.

"They have told us they are moving to a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility, so it’s quite nice to see where they have come from and how they have been so successful with, I guess, limited resources.

"It’s a brilliant facility and the pitches are amazing, they’ve got a really good gym, but they’re probably, as they’ve said, a little bit behind the rest of the top Premier League teams."

Roberts also spoke of the benefits of the tournament becoming a regular feature on the calendar.

"This is the third year we have done this tournament and it’s really good having the base in Leicester as well," he commented.

"Wheelchair rugby is not the most well-known sport, so what we’re able to do in terms of putting on a consistent venue each year gets the fans interested, creates a bit of local support and it builds momentum and that’s a really important thing."

As well as seeing training pitches, the gym, changing rooms and Leicester's boot room, the wheelchair rugby contingent also met the Leicester squad, including midfielder Hamza Choudhury.

"It’s really nice for them to come and see other athletes train," said the 22-year-old who came through Leicester's academy.

"Obviously they’ve got a really big tournament coming up this weekend with King Power sponsoring the event for a third time.

"It’s really nice for them to have somewhere they feel like they can call home."

The competition is being held at the English city's Morningside Arena and begins of Friday (February 21), reaching its crescendo on Sunday (February 23).

Australia face the US in the first game in a replay of the Rio 2016 Paralympic final.

Japan, the reigning world champions, beat Britain in last year's final.

Leicester City in the Community, along with the club staff, will be hosting a children's event at the venue on Friday, featuring inclusive activities and an opportunity to watch two Quad Nations matches.
