South Korea and Canada have qualified for the women's semi-finals after picking up wins in the sole session of the day at the World Junior Curling Championships in Krasnoyarsk.

An 8-1 victory for South Korea, led by skip Kim Min-ji, over hosts Russia extended their unbeaten run to seven matches at the Crystal Ice Arena.

As for Canada, skipped by Mackenzie Zacharias, they defeated Denmark 7-4 to make it six wins out of seven.

Five teams - Denmark, Japan, Latvia, Russia and Switzerland - are all chasing the remaining two semi-final places and a top-six finish that would guarantee a direct place in next year's event.

Denmark and Russia are joined on four wins from seven by Japan, who lost 5-4 to Switzerland today.

Latvia overcame Sweden 8-7 and are level with Switzerland on three wins from seven.

Today's other match saw Norway edge Hungary 5-4.

In the men's event, Canada, Germany and Scotland secured their places in the semi-finals after the evening's eighth round-robin session. 

Canada lead the way on seven wins from eight after beating Russia 6-1.

Germany and Scotland are on six wins from eight after defeating Sweden and the United States, respectively.

The Germans triumphed 8-2, while the Scots prevailed 7-6 after an extra end.

In today's first session, Canada beat Germany 8-5 and Scotland defeated Switzerland 7-2.

The last remaining semi-final place in the men's event will be decided in tomorrow afternoon's final round-robin session.

Sweden, 6-2 winners over New Zealand in their first outing today, are currently in the driving seat with five wins from eight.

Russia and Switzerland are joint fifth on four wins from eight.

Both teams beat Norway today, with the former winning 8-7 in the first session and the latter 6-3 in the second.

There were mixed fortunes for Italy in today's two other matches.

They lost 8-7 to the US before overcoming New Zealand 7-5.
