The Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) has opened applications for the 2020 Para Sport Jumpstart Fund.

The scheme, run by the CPC in conjunction with Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, awards grants to organisations in the country which have Para-sport programmes.

Funding can be put towards equipment, staffing, recruitment and additional programming.

According to the CPC, over CAD$2.5 million (£1.5 million/$1.9 million/€1.7 million) has been allocated to youth programming since the initiative launched in 2013.

Grants worth a total of CAD$800,000 (£468,000/$605,000/€560,000) were distributed among 40 community organisations last year, the CPC added.

"It is so important for the future of the Para sport system in Canada to develop a strong grassroots level, and there is so much phenomenal work being done across the country to give children with disabilities accessible opportunities to be active," said CPC chief executive Karen O'Neill.

"We thank Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities for its continued leadership and commitment to Para-sport, and together we look forward to supporting more organisations in their endeavours to provide children with positive sport experiences."

Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities President Scott Fraser said the organisation is "proud of the impact our work with the Canadian Paralympic Committee has had and the opportunities it will continue to provide, enabling kids to get into Para-sport".
