The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) has appointed three athlete ambassadors who will take roles at major events this year.

Russian Vladislav Oskner and Romania's Oana Corina Constantin will be on hand at the Aerobic Gymnastics World Championships in Azerbaijan's capital Baku between May 14 and 16.

Donghua Li of Switzerland has also been appointed and will serve at his home Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships in Geneva from May 29 to 31.

All three will bid to pass on their passion for gymnastics to the next generation.

"Heroes have always made history in gymnastics," said FIG President Morinari Watanabe.

"Behind the medals, there are countless inspirational stories.

"By sharing their tales, our 2020 gymnastics ambassadors will help build bridges between generations as well as between gymnastics disciplines."

Oskner and his late wife Tatyana Solovieva won four gold medals at the World Championships in the mixed pair, as well as two titles at the World Games.

Constantin also won four world titles with her golds coming in the individual, team, group and pair.

She added World Games gold in the individual.

Li won pommel horse gold for Switzerland at Atlanta 1996 and is the country's last gymnastics Olympic champion.

He originally competed for his home country of China but was banned from the national team when he decided to marry Swiss citizen Esperanza Friedli.

It took him five years to attain Swiss nationality and he went on to also win the world and European pommel horse titles for his adopted country.
