The ParaTough Cup sees teams of six people competing in Paralympic-inspired challenges such as sitting volleyball and wheelchair basketball, with the teams taking part having committed to raise at least CAD5,000 (£2,900/$3,750/€3,440).

Points are awarded for both sporting and fundraising prowess.

Shacarra Orr, who was in Canada's women's sitting volleyball team at Rio 2016, will co-emcee the Calgaray event at Repsol Sport Centre on February 20.

"I am so excited to be part of ParaTough Cup and can’t wait to spend time with all of the participants and show them just how wonderful Para-sport really is," Orr said.

"ParaTough Cup is such an important initiative to not only raise much-needed dollars to support athletes with a disability, but also to increase the awareness about Para-sport, the opportunities out there, and what it takes to be a top athlete.” 

Orr won a bronze medal at the Toronto 2015 Parapan Am Games.

Calgary will mark the third ParaTough Cup event of the season, with stops in Vancouver and Montreal having raised in excess of CAD171,000 (£99,000/$128,00/€118,000).

"ParaTough Cup is our biggest event of the year that helps achieve our goals of providing the support needed for Para-athletes to take the next level in sport, whether that be through things like coaching, equipment, or quality competition opportunities,” commented PFC director Dean Brokop.

"We are looking forward to making our return to Calgary, a city that is so supportive of sport and was so welcoming to us last year. 

"We’re sure this event will be an enjoyable and enlightening afternoon that really shows everyone the spirit of the Paralympic Movement."

Main sponsor Petro-Canada is matching donations up to CAD10,000 (£5,800/$7,500/€6,880) and offering those taking part a chance to win free fuel for a year.

The Toronto leg of the ParaTough Cup will be at Mattamy Athletic Centre on March 5.
