Abdelhak Kherbache triumphed in front of a home crowd as senior men’s freestyle wrestling competition took place on the final day of the African Wrestling Championships in Algiers.

Kherbache, from Algeria, saw off the challenge of Guinea-Bissau’s Diamantino Iuna Fafe in the final of the men’s under-57-kilogram category at La Coupole d'Alger, claiming a dominant 7-0 victory.

Egypt’s Gamal Mohamed and South Africa’s Jakobo Tau claimed the bronze medals in the division.

A second Algerian gold of the day came in the 61kg competition, which saw athletes compete in a round robin format.

Abdelghani Benatallah topped the standings after winning all four of his bouts, with Egypt’s Yousef Mohamed Yousef Eissa winning silver.

Morocco’s Chakir Ansari rounded off the podium places.

The Algerian gold medal charge was halted when Ishak Boukhors suffered defeat the men’s 74kg final.

Gold was claimed by Nigeria’s Ogbonna John, who overcame Boukhors 5-1.

Bronze medals were secured by Tunisia’s Maher Ghanmi and Egypt’s Amr Hussen.

Guinea-Bissau’s Mbunde Cumba Mbali emerged as the winner of the men’s 65kg final, following a hard-fought bout with Nigeria’s Amas Daniel.

The contest ended with Mbali holding a 4-2 lead over his rival.

Egypt’s Fathi Ismail earned the first bronze medal in the weight division, with Algeria’s Amar Laissaoui taking second place.

A round robin format decided the 79kg title, with Ayoub Barraj of Tunisia emerging as the competition winner.

Egypt’s Saifeldin Elkoumy and Algeria’s Mohammed Boudraa completed the medal positions.

In the 86kg category there were matches to decide the medallists.

In the gold match, Khaled Elmoatamadawi of Egypt beat Roman Manitra Raharison 11-0 with bronze medals being secured by Fateh Benferdjallah of Algeria and Ekerekeme Agiomor of Nigeria.

The 97kg category was the penultimate event of the Championships, and gold went to Mohamed Saadaoui of Tunisia who beat Martin Erasmus 9-4 in the medal match.

Bronze medals went to Soso Tamarau of Nigeria and Francisco Ngonda.

Egypt took the final title of the night in the men's 125kg category with Diaaeldin Abdelmottaleb beating Djahid Berrahal 10-0.

The bronze medal went to Johannes Kriel by default as his opponent was injured and could not contest the medal match.

In the final team standings, Algeria were narrow winners on 183 points, just three ahead of Egypt on 180, with Tunisia taking the team bronze with 150 points.
