USA Taekwondo have announced that eight new national teams will be created following this year's US Open in Orlando.

Five squads will be selected in sparring and three from poomsae after the event in Florida.

The sparring national teams will be in the ultra category for over 33s, the cadet category for between 12 and 14-year-olds, the youth category for between 10 and 11, the tiger category for between eight and nine and the dragon category for between six and seven.

In poomsae, squads will be picked in the dragon, tiger and youth categories.

Tiger and dragon athletes will compete for the first time at this year's US Open, with the best performers becoming the first national teams at this level.

They will represent the US at a new event – the 2020 Pan American Youth, Cadet and Ultra Championships in Spokane between May 21 and 24. 

The US Open in Orlando is scheduled for between February 27 and March 1.
