Francesco Friedrich's four-man bobsleigh team won the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) World Cup after a dramatic second run was enough to turn the tide against German rival pilot Johannes Lochner at St Moritz in Switzerland.

Friedrich's team sat in seventh place after the first run with Lochner leading the field.

The World Cup leaders looked to be in their worst position in this year's competition, with their worst finish being fourth in the opening leg in Lake Placid.

After the first run, the standings provisionally put Lochner's quartet ahead by four points with Friedrich needing to finish at least sixth to secure the World Cup win.

On the second run, they improved to fifth, turning the title back into Friedrich's hands along with his team of Candy Bauer, Martin Grothkopp and Thorsten Margis.

To rub salt into the new wounds of Lochner and company, their second run was slower than their rivals - only the sixth quickest on run two, dropping them down to third and giving their rivals a 37 point advantage in the final standings.

Third in the standings were the winners on the day - the team from Switzerland.

Canada's Justin Kripps had identical matching runs, helping him into a strong lead which was maintained when Lochner had his second slower run.

The win would also be Kripps first since the opening two legs which his team won back-to-back.

Sandwiched between the two teams was Latvia's Oskars Kibermanis who also had consistent runs to take his joint best result of the World Cup, alongside the opening leg in St Moritz.

The junior team from the United States led by Hunter Church finished fifth in the overall standings after a strong showing in the final leg of the competition.
