Japan won softball's Australia Pacific Cup for the second time after defeating home side Aussie Spirit 7-0 in the final.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic hosts ended the tournament with a perfect record after their success at Blacktown International Sportspark.

They opened up a 2-0 lead at the top of the second inning in the final and added another unanswered run at the top of the fifth.

Four more runs arrived in the top of the sixth to complete a comfortable victory.

Catcher Yamamoto Fujita was named as player of the final after her great work on the mound, where she took hold of seven strikeouts.

The semi-finals were played earlier in the day with Japan edging Italy 3-2.

Aussie Spirit won by the same scoreline against Mexico.

The tournament is a key warm-up event for softball's return to the Olympics at Tokyo 2020.

All four semi-finalists have qualified for the Games in Japan.

Both women's softball and men's baseball were axed from the Olympics after Beijing 2008.
