A close contest unfolded between the two snowboarders, with Switzerland’s Anouk Doerig and Russia’s Anastasia Privalova rounding off the final field.

Baff cllinched the gold medal by just 0.05 seconds, with a photo finish showing her cross the line half a snowboard ahead of a diving Herpin.

The local crowd celebrated a bronze medal for Doerig, who came across the line 0.5 seconds behind the winner.

Further Swiss delight was delivered moments later, with the conclusion of the men’s competition ending with a triumph for Valerio Jud.

The local snowboarder battled with Germany’s Niels Conradt in the closing stages of the contest, as Spain’s Alvaro Romero and France’s Quentin Sodogas fell victim to incidents earlier in the race.

Jud clinched the host nation’s ninth gold medal of Lausanne 2020 by finishing 0.13 seconds ahead of Conradt.

"I feel really happy," Jud said.

"The race was a little bit sketchy, but the end was good.

"Having the support from the crowd was very nice."

Romero claimed the bronze medal, with the Spaniard crossing the line eight seconds behind the top two.

Improved weather conditions enabled the Leysin Park and Pipe venue to host men’s snowboard slopestyle and women’s halfpipe, following yesterday’s postponement due to high winds.

Ono Mitsuki ensured the wait was worth it by producing a high-quality performance in the halfpipe final.

The 15-year-old showed no sign of nerves, as her opening run was rewarded with a score of 91.33 points to immediately take charge of the contest.

A second run score of 88.33 points served as a prelude for Ono’s final display, the Japanese snowboarder finishing with a flourish as a faultless routine earned 95.33.

Manon Kaji ensured there was a Japanese one-two with her first run score of 85.33 points proving enough to win the silver medal.

Switzerland’s Tessa Maud won the bronze medal with a score of 81.33 points.

Dusty Henricksen delivered success for the United States in the men’s slopestyle competition, his first two runs putting the gold medal out of the sight of his rivals.

The American was rewarded for a superb opening run with a huge score of 94.00 points, which he immediately improved when he earned 96.33 with his second effort.

It confirmed gold before his final run of the event.

Canada’s Liam Brearley settled for the silver medal by achieving a high score of 85.33 points, with Switzerland’s Nick Puenter clinching bronze on 66.33.
