Alexander Czudaj of Germany and Romanian Andrei Robert Nica shared the men's monobob gold medal in a dead heat at the Winter Youth Olympic Games in St Moritz.

Czudaj - whose father Harald was a member of the German team which claimed the Winter Olympic four-man title at Lillehammer 1994 - and Nica ended with an identical time of 2min 24.80sec after the second run.

Quentin Sanzo took bronze to secure Liechtenstein's first medal at Lausanne 2020.

"Being here has meant a lot,” Czudaj said.

"It’s just an honour and I think he’s [Harald] really happy too.

"He has been a massive inspiration to me.

"Before the race he told me to just stay cool.

"He said: 'You have done it.

"'You are at the Olympics now and everything after that is a bonus.’"

Nica, whose compatriot Georgeta Popsecu clinched the women's monobob title yesterday, said winning joint gold was the best achievement of his career.

"It is so crazy, nobody expected this and it has never happened to me before," he said.

"This is madness.

"My wish was to get an Olympic medal, but not a gold.

"It was too high for me, and I did not expect this."

Lukas David Nydegger of Germany topped the podium in the men's skeleton competition at the Olympia Bob Run after clocking a time of 2:17.00.

The German earned a dominant victory as he finished 1.42sec quicker than nearest challenger Elvis Veinbergs of Latvia, who earned silver in 2:18.42.

Livio Summermatter of Switzerland was the recipient of the bronze medal in 2:19.53.
