The official draw for the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Men's Olympic Qualifying Championship has taken place in host city Guadalajara, where the eight participating teams learned their groups for the event.

Home nation Mexico have been drawn into Group A with Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic and the United States, while Group B is made up of Canada, El Salvador, Haiti and Honduras.

Teams will be competing for two tickets to the men's football tournament at Tokyo 2020.

The event is due to run from March 20 to April 1, taking place in two venues in Guadalajara – Jalisco Stadium and Akron Stadium, where the draw was held.

Group-stage action will be played between March 20 and 27, with the semi-finals on March 30 and the final on April 1.

The top two from each group qualify for the semi-finals.

CONCACAF secretary general Philippe Moggio and Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro Ramírez gave opening remarks before the draw ceremony took place.

Oribe Peralta, a member of Mexico's Olympic gold medal-winning men’s football team at London 2012, was a draw assistant.

He was joined in fulfilling that role by the coach who led Mexico to glory eight years ago, Luis Fernando Tena.

Mexico are considered the favourites to triumph in Guadalajara and were one of the top two seeds along with Honduras.
