Karl Geiger of Germany continued his excellent form with victory at the International Ski Federation (FIS) Ski Jumping World Cup event in the Italian resort of Val di Fiemme.

The 26-year-old recorded his third World Cup win of the season, having already topped the podium at Wisła in Poland and Garmisch-Partenkirchen in front of a home crowd. 

He managed a total of 294.6 points on the HS104 hill to earn yet another gold medal.

Stefan Kraft of Austria was the silver medallist with 286.9, while David Kubacki of Poland finished with bronze after scoring 279.9.

Geiger's victory means he takes the lead in the overall World Cup standings, overtaking Japan's Ryoyu Kobayashi, who struggled with a 26th place finish. 

It is extremely tight at the top, with Geiger on 719 points and Kobayashi on 649. 

Kraft is further behind the two on 619. 

The event in Val di Fiemme is a double-header, with competition continuing tomorrow.
