World champion Gergely Siklósi of Hungary beat South Korea's Park Sang-young to the gold medal at the International Fencing Federation (FIE) Men's Épée World Cup in Heidenheim.

Siklósi edged his opponent 15-14 in the final in the German town.

He had earlier beaten second-seeded Russian Sergey Bida 15-8 in the semi-finals, marking a repeat of the outcome in the gold-medal match at last year's World Championships in Budapest.

Bida was joined on the third step of the podium by Poland's Radosław Zawrotniak, who lost 15-9 to Park in the other last-four encounter.

Zawrotniak eliminated top seed Andrea Santarelli of Italy in the last-32.

Action also began today at the FIE Men's Foil World Cup in Paris and FIE Women's Foil World Cup in Polish city Katowice.

In Paris, Russia's Grigoriy Semenyuk has set up a last-64 clash with top seeded-Italian Alessio Foconi, the 2018 world champion, after coming through the preliminary rounds.

Hong Kong's Cheung Siu Lun will face second seed Race Imboden of the United States for a place in the last-32 at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin.

Over at "Spodek" Hall in Katowice, top seed Inna Deriglazova of Russia and second seed Alice Volpi have learned that they will meet Romania's Maria Boldor and South Korea's Joo Yeongji, respectively, in the last-64.

Russia enjoyed a successful day at the FIE Women's Épée World Cup in the Cuban capital of Havana, with four of their fencers progressing through into the main round. 

Tatiana Gudkova defeated compatriot Tatyana Andryushina 15-12, before Violetta Khrapina overcame Leonora MacKinnon of Canada 15-8 at the Coliseo de la Ciudad Deportiva.

Daria Martynyuk was a 15-13 victor against Ricarda Multerer of Germany, while Inna Okhotnikova beat Isis Washington of the US 15-14.
