The J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions is set to start tomorrow in New York City, with former world champion and world number one Grégory Gaultier braced to make his long-awaited return to the Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour.

The Frenchman last featured on the Tour at the 2018 US Open, where he suffered a devastating injury, keeping him out for more than a year.

Gaultier made his return to the professional game at last month's World Squash Federation (WSF) Men's World Team Championships in Washington, D.C., helping France to a third-place finish.

The 37-year-old's first match back will be against Egypt's Omar Mosaad, who he beat in the PSA World Championship final in 2015, as he aims to repeat his triumph from 2009.

Both players have been given a first-round bye and will meet in the second round on Friday (January 10).

The current Tournament of Champions title holder is world number one Ali Farag of Egypt.

He will be looking to find form, having not featured on the PSA World Tour since losing to compatriot Karim Abdel Gawad in the final of the Egyptian Open on November 1.

Farag was unable to defend his global crown at the PSA World Championship in Qatar's capital Doha in November, missing the event due to personal reasons, but he did feature in the winning Egyptian team at the WSF Men's World Team Championships.

Alongside Gaultier, Farag and 2017 winner Gawad, three other previous champions will also play at Grand Central Terminal this week, with Germany's Simon Rösner, Egypt's Mohamed ElShorbagy and England's James Willstrop all going for glory once more.

Four-time world champion Nour El Sherbini will be alongside world number one and fellow Egyptian Raneem El Welily in leading the charge for the women's title.

El Sherbini is looking to lift the Tournament of Champions trophy for a fourth time, having previously done so in 2016, 2018 and 2019.

French number one Camille Serme will, once again, lead the European charge, with the 2017 Tournament of Champions victor looking for a second crown.

Home hopes will rest on world number seven Amanda Sobhy, who grew up only 20 miles away from New York City in Sea Cliff.

Play is due to begin tomorrow and conclude on January 17.
