Online betting firm Unibet has taken up the eighth and final sponsorship package for the men’s European Handball Federation (EHF) Euro 2020 event.

It will also resume sponsorship of the women’s event following last year’s successful involvement.

The agreement - arranged by Wanda Sports Group company Infront - has been signed by Unibet’s parent company Kindred Group.

The men’s European Championship is due to take place in Austria, Norway and Sweden from January 9 to 26, with a record 24 teams taking part.

Spain will be defending their title having beaten Sweden 29-23 in the final in Zagreb.

"Kindred Group’s decision to expand their presence at the EHF Eurosspeaks volumes about the impact its sponsorship had at the women’s event in 2018," Julian Ternisien, senior vice-president at Infront, said.

"In addition, the fact that all eight packages have been sold for the men’s event highlights the value sponsors continue to put in men’s handball."

Timothy Mastelinck, global head of sponsorships at Kindred, added: "We want to offer customers an honest, transparent and safe gaming experience and ensure they are aware of their gaming behaviour so they can play responsibly.”

Martin Hausleitner, secretary general of the EHF, said: "The fact that all eight sponsorship packages have been sold is great news and underlines the attractiveness of handball for companies as we are looking forward to staging the biggest EHF Euro to date next month."

The women’s European Championship is scheduled to be held in Denmark and Norway from December 3 to 20.

France won last year's Championship, beating Olympic gold medallists Russia 24-21 before a home crowd in Paris.
