China's Liu Jiayu topped the women's snowboard standings in qualification at the International Ski Federation Ski Halfpipe World Cup in front of a home crowd.

Attention turned from yesterday's skiing qualification to snowboarding today at the Genting Resort Secret Garden.

Liu produced an impressive display in the women's competition to ease through to the final.

The Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympic silver medallist achieved a score of 90.80 in her second run of the competition to head the standings.

She was closely followed by the United States' Maddie Mastro, a bronze medallist at this year's World Championships in Utah.

Mastro scored 90.20 to end second in qualifying, with Japan's Imai Kurumi completing the top three on 82.80.

The top eight scorers qualified to the final, with hosts China boasting the biggest team due to three of their athletes advancing.

Australia's three-time world champion Scotty James led the way in men's qualification.

The Olympic bronze medallist scored 94.20 in his opening run of the competition to top the standings, which led to him opting not to start his second run.

Japan's Yuto Totsuka was second in qualification on 92.00, with team mate Ruka Hirano third on 87.80.

The best 10 men's snowboarders in qualifying advanced to the final.

Both the men's and women's finals will be held on Sunday (December 22).

The skiing halfpipe finals are tomorrow, with United States’ Aaron Blunck and Russia's Valeriya Demidova the top qualifiers for their respective events.
