Home favourite Giacomo Pierbon has doubled his gold medal tally at the Winter Deaflympics ©Deaflympics 2019

Alpine skiers Giacomo Pierbon of Italy and Elena Yakovishina of Russia followed up wins in yesterday's downhill events by claiming the Alpine combined titles at the Winter Deaflympics in Sondrio today.

Pierbon came out on top in the men's event with an overall time of 1 min 43.00sec, on the Italian town's Deborah Compagnoni slope.

That was made up of 1:06.76 in the downhill and 36.24 in the slalom.

Russia's Pavel Kazakov finished second in 1:44.77, while France's Nicolas Sarremejane came third in 1:45.68.

In the women's event, Yakovishina led the way with a time of 1:46.70.

Czech Republic's Tereza Kmochová was the silver medallist in 1:48.02 and the bronze went to Austria's Melissa Koeck in 1:51.46.

Medals were also awarded today in the cross-country skiing sprint classic competitions at Pista Sci di Fondo - Ski Stadium.

Russia's Lyubov Misharina won the women's event in 3:11.08, ahead of compatriots Anna Fedulova and Tatyana Gorbunova in 3:18.02 and 3:23.01, respectively.

In the men's event, Ukraine's Andriy Andriyishyn posted the best time, 2:39.3, but was disqualified.

It meant the gold medal went to Russia's Vladimir Mayorov in 2:39.4.

Ukraine's Pavlo Mandziuk was the runner-up in 2:54.70 and the podium was rounded off by Russia's Andrey Dubovskikh in 2:44.5.

Action in Sondrio is due to continue tomorrow.
