Aracaju and Gramado will, for the first time, hold regional rounds next year for Brazil's Youth School Games, which have just enjoyed a highly successful conclusion for 2019 in Blumenau.

The Youth School Games, organised since 2005 by the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB), represent the largest student competition in the country, involving almost 5000 athletes between 12 and 17 years old.

The destination of the third regional round in 2020, and the concluding national phase, have yet to be announced.

Speaking after the Blumenau event, the COB  sport development executive manager Kenji Saito commented: "The final balance is quite positive.

"We received many compliments from athletes and representatives of all states.

"We know that some things may always be improved, but we were once more able to serve everyone with much quality."

Arthur Correa, general co-ordinator of the School Games, added: "For the first time in the history of the project, we managed to have a great presence of the public on the bleachers.

"Blumenau was fundamental for this success, with quite close sports facilities and a large structure made available at the Vila Germânica."

The competition was also a success on social networks.

The 85 live transmissions on the Youth School Games' page on Facebook attracted over one million spectators.

In the Sports Development field, the main novelty was the implementation of the Evaluation and Monitoring Centre, which recorded the data of more than 2000 students aged between 12 and 14 years old so that the COB could begin to draw the profile of athletes coming through the School Games.

Kenji added: "We also had the launch of the Young Athlete Career Programme, which shows the COB's care with the student training, reinforcing the importance of conciliating sports and education.

"We also offer the Basic Management Course for Coaches, at no cost to participants, besides presenting the Doping Education and Prevention Programme."
