Taekwondo Canada (TC) has proposed a new system of senior national rankings to be used for international team selection.
In its December 2019 bulletin, the national body put forward a new system that will be in place from January 1 next year.
"Through the 2020 season, a senior national ranking (for each division) will be put together and will be used from the start of the 2021 season (Jan. 1st 2021),” the bulletin reads.
"Then, rankings will be updated periodically using points earned in the last 3 events an athlete has participated in.
"From the 2021 season, the latest National rankings can be used for selecting Teams to international events. (Note: only points earned at senior events will count toward this ranking).”
There will be two separate national ranking systems - one for world weight divisions and another for Olympic weight divisions.
Competitions that can be used to earn points will be the Taekwondo Canada Senior Nationals, the Canada Open (G-1), and, as a third option, the US Open (G-2) or President Cup (G-2) , with the best of the two last being used.
Also proposed in the newsletter is a new funding model for 2020 that will deliver support both for results at events and for Readiness To Compete, which will come into play during international training camps.
