Russia's Anastasiia Makarova triumphed in the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation women's monobob event in Lillehammer.

The second women's monobob race of the season took place at the Lillehammer Olympic Sliding Centre.

Makarova set the pace in the first run of the competition, with the Russian leading the standings in a time of 57.91 seconds.

She would be the only athlete to dip below the 58-second mark.

The fast first run gave Makarova a strong cushion over her rivals, which proved key after she produced the fourth-quickest second run time of 58.65.

Makarova was able to hang on to claim victory in an overall time of 1min 56.56.

France's Margot Boch closed the gap to the Russian by achieving the fastest second run.

She would fall just 0.08 seconds adrift overall with 1:56.64.

The podium was rounded off by The Netherlands’ Karlien Sleper, who ended in 1:56.79.

The event is one of eight women's monobob races due to be held this season.

Canada's Cynthia Appiah won the opening competition in Lake Placid on Monday (November 18).

Königssee, Park City and La Plagne are all set to stage events before the women's monobob campaign concludes in Lake Placid in April.

The discipline will make its debut on the Olympic programme at the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing.
