Iran made a winning start to the Blind Football Asian Championships in Pattaya, cruising to victory over Malaysia.

The Rio 2016 silver medalists were untroubled in their first Group B match at the Pattaya Youth Center.

Iran scored four times without reply to earn victory.

The win gave Iran an ideal start to the tournament as they aim to improve on their silver medal from two years ago.

Oman endured a difficult start in the same group as the tournament debutants fell to a convincing defeat to Japan.

The Japanese team produced a strong performance to claim a 5-0 win.

Hosts Thailand recorded a 6-0 victory over India in the final match of the day in Group A.

Competition is due continue tomorrow with a further three matches.

This will include defending champions China facing South Korea in Group A.

The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals, with the International Blind Sports Federation tournament set to run until Sunday (October 6).

As well as continental glory, the two finalists will book their place at next year's Paralympic Games in Tokyo.

Japan have already qualified for Tokyo 2020 as host nation, so the third-placed side will reach the Paralympics if they get to the final.
