Burroughs and snowboarder Chris Corning have been nominated in the male athlete of the month category alongside water polo's Johnny Hooper, shooter Brian Burrows and Para taekwondo star Evan Medell.

Burroughs clinched a third consecutive Pan American Games title in the 74 kilograms category, while Corning won the International Ski Federation's opening Big Air World Cup event in Cardrona.

Burrows claimed gold in the men's trap final at the Pan American Games to earn a quota spot for Tokyo 2020, while Hooper led the US men's team to Lima 2019 gold with 24 goals in the final.

Medell won three consecutive matches to become the first Para taekwondo gold medallist at the Parapan American Games, where the sport made its debut.

The female athlete of the month award will be contested between Biles, triathlete Katie Zaferes and figure skater Alysa Liu.

Biles, a four-time Olympic gold medallist, secured a sixth all-around title at the US Championships, landing a double-double dismount on beam and a triple-double on floor.

Liu landed a quad Lutz and a quad and triple Axel as she won the International Skating Union Junior Grand Prix in Lake Placid, while Zaferes clinched the International Triathlon Union World Triathlon Grand Final title in Lausanne.

Also nominated are Regina Jaquess from water-skiing after she won a golden treble in slalom, jumping and overall at the Pan American Games, and sport climber Brooke Raboutou, who qualified for Tokyo 2020 by finishing ninth at the World Championships.

Three national teams have been shortlisted for the team of the month award.

The US eventing and water polo teams are nominated for winning gold medals at the Pan American Games. while the US wheelchair rugby team clinched gold at the Parapan American Games.
