Hosts South Korea booked their place in the super round at the World Baseball Softball Confederation Under-18 World Cup, defeating China 7-2 in Group A.

The home side proved too strong at Gijang-Hyundai Dream Ballpark, completing their opening phase with a record of four wins and one defeat.

They raced into a 6-0 lead and there was no way back for China, who have lost all their matches so far.

South Korea sit on top of the group but Canada, who were 9-0 winners over Nicaragua, now have a record of three victories and one defeat with a game in hand.

The victory moved the Canadians to the brink of the super round, while Nicaragua ended their group phase on two wins and three defeats.

Both Australia and The Netherlands now sit on two wins and two losses after the Dutch won the encounter between the pair 4-3.

It means both sides, and Canada, will battle for the two remaining super round places when the group phase ends tomorrow.

The Dutch will meet China, with Australia and Canada locking horns in games that were postponed because of rain earlier in the tournament.

In Group B, the three super round qualifiers have now been confirmed as Japan, Chinese Taipei and United States.

Japan beat Panama 5-1, with the Taiwanese easing past South Africa 15-0.

Both countries have now completed their opening phase with four wins and a defeat.

The US, who are bidding for a fifth title in a row, defeated Spain 8-3 to move onto three wins and one loss.

They will draw level with Japan and Chinese Taipei if they win their game in hand against Panama tomorrow.

Spain will also meet South Africa in a contest between two already eliminated sides.

Results against other super round sides from the first stage carry over to the next round.

This is intriguing in Group B, as all three teams are going through with one victory on the board.

Japan beat the US, the Americans saw off Chinese Taipei and the Taiwanese defeated Japan.

In Group A, South Korea will hope Australia do not go through as they were beaten by the Oceania side.

They claimed victories over Canada and The Netherlands, so these wins would carry over should these sides advance.
