Reigning Olympic champion Christian Reitz of Germany claimed gold in the men's 25 metre rapid fire pistol at the International Shooting Sport Federation Rifle and Pistol World Cup in Rio de Janeiro.

Reitz triumphed again at the Centro Militar de Tiro Esportivo, having already done so during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. 

He is also the current world silver medallist, having finished second in Changwon last year. 

Reitz scored 34 points to win, edging past compatriot Oliver Geis who finished on 32 points.

China's Li Yuehong completed the podium, having been eliminated on 25. 

Muhammad Khalil Akhtar from Pakistan and Kim Jun-hong Kim from South Korea, who finished sixth and seventh respectively, booked places at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. 

Competition continues tomorrow with the 10 metre air rifle mixed relay event.
