Colombia celebrate gold in Las Vegas ©World Bowling

Colombia won the team event on the final day of the World Bowling Women's Championships in Las Vegas.

Anggie Ramirez, Clara Guerrero, Laura Plazas, Rocio Restrepo, Maria Rodriguez and Juliana Franco made up the triumphant team at South Point Bowling Plaza, defeating Sweden 2-1.

The Colombian side took the first game by a single pin, edging past their opponents 205-204.

Sweden brought the scores level, winning the second game 235-220, before Colombia claimed the crucial decider, 222-202.

It was Colombia's first team world title, having finished second in 1999 and third in 2003, 2011 and 2017.

"We are extremely happy," said Guerrero.

"This is definitely one of our dreams. 

"We have come close many times with bronze and silver, but this was our goal. 

"We worked so hard as a team and when it came down to the final shots and we needed to strike, we did it. 

"We are just so happy it went our way and finally we are world champions."

Sandra Andersson, Josefin Hermansson, Cajsa Wegner, Anna Anersson, Jenny Wegner and Joline Persson Planefors of Sweden went home with the silver medal, while Mexico and the United States finished with bronze. 

The team competition concluded the World Championships.
