Home favourite Laura Rogora topped the women's junior lead qualification standings on day two of the International Federation of Sport Climbing Youth World Championships in Arco, Italy.

The 18-year-old finished ahead of the United States' Brooke Raboutou and France's Nina Arthaud at the RockMaster Climbing Stadium.

Qualification was also held in the men's and women's youth A lead categories, with Spain's Alberto Ginés López and American Colin Duffy sharing first place in the former, and Ukraine's Nika Potapova and Japan's Natsumi Hirano on top in the latter.

Third spot in the men's youth A went to the Zander Waller of the US.

Completing the top three in the women's youth A was Slovenia's Lucija Tarkus.

The semi-finals and finals in all six lead competitions are scheduled for the weekend.

Attention will then turn to boulder and speed events from Monday (August 26).

When British skaters Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean won the Olympic gold medal in ice dance at Sarajevo 1984 with 12 perfect 6.0s from every judge, for their interpretation of Maurice Ravel's Boléro, an important member of their team was singer-actor Michael Crawford. Crawford, who had played Frank Spencer in British sitcom Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em and the title role in the musical The Phantom of the Opera, had become a mentor to the pair in 1981 and went on to help them create their Olympic routine. Crawford said he “taught them how to act". He was present with their trainer Betty Callaway at the ringside at Sarajevo as they created one of the most iconic moments in Olympic history.
