The 25-year-old Ivorian reaffirmed his dominance of the 80 kilogram division by adding another gold to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games victory and his African Games triumph four years ago in Brazzaville.

Cissé said he had always focused on keeping his place at the top of African taekwondo by increasing his efforts following his previous gold medals.

He said: "I'm very satisfied.

"It is very difficult in sports to maintain a certain level, it is one thing to be a champion but it is more difficult to keep up this level and remain champion.

"It was a goal of mine to keep this title, to defend this title, as an athlete, I only had to train and have the will.

"I did it and I am very happy about it."

Cissé had too much for home hopeful Achraf Mahboubi of Morocco in the 80kg final at the Prince Moulay Abdallah Sports Complex in Rabat.

He now has eight career gold medals from major championships, with his Olympic and African Games victories going with his four Grand Prix triumphs and victory at the 2016 African Championships in Port Said.
