The 19-year-old, now up to 12^th in the men’s recurve world rankings, won six matches at the Zona Sur University Sports Complex on his way to making the final. 

This included a 6-2 semi-final victory over South Korea’s Lee Jin-yong.

Standing between Williams and glory at the Spanish capital’s Royal Palace is another South Korean, Kim Hyeon-jong, who beat Turkey’s Mete Gazoz 7-1 in the other last-four encounter.

"This is my first individual gold medal match and I’m super happy," the American, seeded 10^th, said.

"I was nervous but I’ve done this so many times now and even final matches with the [senior] team.

"So it wasn’t super nerve-racking, but I still felt it."

Mexico will be represented in three of the other seven individual finals decided today, making them the most successful nation across the individual events.

Ana Paula Vazquez will face Colombia's Valentina Acosta Giraldo in the women's junior recurve final, while Caleb Javier Urbina Zapata will do battle with Chinese Taipei's Tai Yu-Hsuan for the men's cadet recurve title.

Mexico's third finalist is Sebastian Garcia, who will meet Russia's Daniil Kosenkov in the men's cadet compound gold medal match.

The four other finals pit Russia's Cherkezova Arina against Denmark's Natacha Stütz in the women's cadet compound, Croatia's Amanda Mlinarić against Turkey's Ipek Tomruk in the women's junior compound, Japan's Sonoda Waka against India's Bari Komalika in the women's cadet recurve, and Norway's Anders Faugstad against Canada's Austin Taylor in the men's junior compound.

The individual compound finals are due to take place on Saturday (August 24).

They will be followed by the individual recurve finals on Sunday (August 25).

Tomorrow's schedule is made up solely of team matches.
