Jack Williams of the United States reached his first international individual final on the global stage after earning his place in the men’s junior recurve gold medal match at the World Archery Youth Championships in Madrid.

The 19-year-old, now up to 12th in the men’s recurve world rankings, won six matches at the Zona Sur University Sports Complex on his way to making the final.

This included a 6-2 semi-final victory over South Korea’s Lee Jin-yong.

Standing between Williams and glory at the Spanish capital’s Royal Palace is another South Korean, Kim Hyeon-jong, who beat Turkey’s Mete Gazoz 7-1 in the other last-four encounter.

"This is my first individual gold medal match and I’m super happy," the American, seeded 10th, said.

"I was nervous but I’ve done this so many times now and even final matches with the [senior] team.

"So it wasn’t super nerve-racking, but I still felt it."
