Hosts Estonia topped Pool A on the opening day of the 2019 World Team Disc Golf Championships in Alutaguse and are among the 12 teams that have booked their place in round two.

The home nation managed 13 wins and three draws to finish round-robin play on 29 points at Mäetaguse Disc Golf Park.

Games consisted of straight matchplay singles and alternate shot matchplay doubles, both over nine holes.

The top three teams from each of the four pools have advanced through to round two, which is due to take place across tomorrow and Friday (August 23) morning.

The dozen sides will be split into Pools E, F, G and H.

Joining Estonia in progressing from Pool A were France and Lithuania, on 20 and 12 points respectively.

Czech Republic topped Pool B ahead of Slovakia and world champions Canada, while Finland beat Germany to first place in Pool C with Spain completing the trio of qualifiers.

Pool D went the way of Championship debutants Austria and they were followed in the standings by 2017 bronze medallists New Zealand and Great Britain.

Suffering elimination were the United States and Croatia from Pool A, Latvia from Pool B, Australia from Pool C and Russia from Pool D.

They will play in another pool to decide the 13th-to-17th-place finishers.
