France and Poland are locked in a fierce battle at the top of the European Team Athletics Championship Super League standings after claiming five and six 12-point victories respectively on day two in Bydgoszcz.

Italy are the best of the rest in third place  with 170 points, with Germany a point further adrift.

But, with 18 events due to be contested tomorrow, any one of the top four could still take the top honours.

Jimmy Vicaut and Carolle Zahi scored a 100 metres double as France climbed into contention and they closed the day out by helping the country win the men's and women's 4x100m relays.

Vicaut earned the maximum 12 points in the men's 100m by holding off Marcell Jacobs to win in 10.35sec as the Italian finished 0.04 seconds behind.

Due to a reorganisation of the European Team Championships from 2021, the Super League is being streamlined to eight teams, meaning five of the 12 current nations will drop into the First League, replaced by just the winners of the First League currently taking place in Sandnes in Norway.

After 22 events Sweden are bottom with 100.50 points.

Finland, Switzerland, Greece and Ukraine occupy the other relegation positions.
