Chinese Taipei and Kenya made history at the Women's Under-19 World Lacrosse Championships as they recorded their first ever victories in Peterborough.

Kenya made their debut at the World Championships in the Canadian city yesterday in a 15-10 defeat against South Korea but found the winning formula at Justin Chiu Stadium to record a crushing 17-1 triumph against jamaica in Pool C.

"It’s nice because we are getting the chance to represent our country," said Kenya's Michelle Wesonga afterwards.

"There were many of us, but only 18 were able to be chosen.

"Because it’s our first time, people may think we are here just to have a good time, but we knew that we had a serious job to do, to represent our country."

Chinese Taipei scored their first World Championship win in Pool D by defeating Ireland, also still seeking a first win in Canada, 11-8.

Puerto Rico followed up their first World Championship triumph against Hong Kong yesterday with a 22-0 win against Belgium in Pool E.

“It’s awesome being around everyone and getting to represent our island-nation,” said Puerto Rico's Sarah Cederstrand.

“A lot of us have only known each other for a couple of months, and to see us playing so well together is really awesome.

"Just being in the dorms together, playing together, practicing together – we’re just always together and it’s just really nice getting the chance to bond together.”

Elsewhere, defending champions Canada won 7-5 in a low-scoring clash with Australia as 2015 runners-up United States recorded an 18-2 victory against England in Pool A.

Haudenosaunee, a historically powerful north-east Native American tribe also known as the Iroquois, maintained their perfect start with a 24-5 win against Hong Kong and Germany won 16-10 against China.
