South Africa's Ashleigh Buhai extended her lead at the Women's British Open to three shots after carding a five-under-par 67 in the second round in Woburn.

Buhai, who has never won on the Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour, made five birdies on the day and played her round bogey-free at the Marquess' course at Woburn Golf Club.

"I'm trying not to keep thinking it's a major," Buhai, whose best previous British Open finish was a tie for 30th in 2017, was reported as saying by the Associated Press

"It's just another tournament.

"I just keep trying to do what I've done the last few weeks.

"I've kept the mistakes off the card the last two days."

Japan's Hinako Shibuno stands alone in second place after the major championship debutant posted a second round 69 to end the day on nine under.

United States' Lizette Salas, who birdied the first four holes on her way to a bogey-free 67, is a further shot back.

England's Bronte Law and Charley Hull, bidding to win a first major title on her home course, are among the five players tied for fourth place on seven under.

They are joined by Germany's Caroline Masson, France's Celine Boutier and world number two Park Sung-hyun of South Korea.

The quintet are one shot ahead of defending champion Georgia Hall, who carded a second consecutive 69.

The English player is level with Thailand's Ariya Jutanugarn, Spain's Carlota Ciganda, the US's Danielle Kang and world number one Ko Jin-young of South Korea.

Ko is looking to become the fifth woman to win three majors in a single season.

The 24-year-old captured the ANA Inspiration and Evian Championship for her first major triumphs.
