The National Basketball Association (NBA) have announced the host cities for the inaugural season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL).

The League is set to see 12 professional club teams from across the continent of Africa competing, with the competition scheduled to commence in March 2020.

Regular season matches are scheduled to take place in Egyptian capital Cairo, Dakar in Senegal, Nigeria’s Lagos, Luanda in Angola, Moroccan capital city Rabat, and either Monastir or Tunis in Tunisia.

Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda, will be the host city for the first-ever BAL Final Four and Final tournaments.

The regular season will feature the 12 teams divided into two conferences, with each playing in three cities.

The 12 teams play five games each for a total of 30 matches in the regular season, with the top three clubs in each conference qualifying for the playoffs.

The six playoff teams – christened the "Super Six" – will play in a round-robin format to determine those that will advance to the BAL Final Four and Final in Kigali in late spring 2020.

The BAL Final Four and Final will straight knockout games.

BAL is a joint venture between the NBA and the International Basketball Federation and marks the first NBA-organised league outside North America.

"Today’s announcements mark another important milestone as we head into what will be a historic first season," BAL President Amadou Gallo Fall said. 

BAL have also announced Nike and Jordan Brand will be the exclusive kit provider for all 12 clubs.
