Japan won gold in both women's events on the final day of competition at the International Judo Federation (IJF) Zagreb Grand Prix today.

In the over 78 kilograms category, Akira Sone defeated Larisa Ceric of Bosnia and Herzegovina via ippon, while Slovenia's Anamari Velensek and Azerbaijan's Iryna Kindzerska claimed bronze.

The 78kg division was won by Mami Umeki, who beat Fanny Posvite of France in the final via golden score.

After the four minutes of regular time passed without a point, Umeki required just six seconds of the added period to claim the score she needed for victory.

Bronze medals went to Karla Prodan of Croatia and Netherlands' Marhinde Verkerk.

There was disappointment for Japan in the men's over 100kg however, as Hisayoshi Harasawa was beaten by Gela Zaalishvili of Georgia in controversial circumstances.

This fight also required a golden score and Harasawa appeared to have claimed it after 22 seconds with a waza-iri, however the initial award was overruled by the video referee commission.

Battle resumed and just 10 seconds later Zaalishvili threw Harasawa for a spectacular ippon, which he celebrated by tearing his judogi jacket open and falling to his knees.

In the men's 90kg category, there was an identical outcome in the gold match between Georgia and Japan, Beka Gviniashvili defeating Sanshiro Murao.

Bronze went to Krisztian Toth from Hungary and Dutchman Noël van't End.

The men's 100kg category was won by Canada's Shady Elnahas, who defeated Alexandre Iddir of France in the final, as Ireland's Benjamin Fletcher and Peter Paltchik of Israel earned bronze.
