Russia fought back to sink Iran and maintain their winning start to the International Volleyball Federation Men’s Under-21 Championship in Bahraini city Riffa.

Following their opening win over the Czech Republic in Pool C, 10-times champions Russia showed their battling qualities with a 21-25, 25-19, 23-25, 25-21, 16-14 victory against Iran at Isa Sports City Hall.

The Czechs got off the mark thanks to a 25-21, 25-21, 25-21 success over Tunisia.

In Pool A, table-toppers China beat Puerto Rico 25-23, 25-22, 25-23 and Bahrain won 25-14, 23-25, 25-21, 22-25, 15-12 against Morocco.

South Korea head Pool B following their 25-22, 25-18, 25-21 victory over Egypt, while Cuba survived an admirable fightback from Argentina to win 25-23, 25-23, 19-25, 22-25, 15-13

In Pool D, Brazil continued to look strong with a 25-15, 25-19, 25-13 victory over Canada.

Italy sealed a straight sets victory against Poland, triumphing 25-23, 25-21, 28-26.

Action is set to continue tomorrow.

The top two sides in each group will qualify for Pools E and F, which will in turn offer two places each in the semi-finals.

The final will be held on July 27.
