India clinched the gold medal in the men's and women's team events at the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships in Cuttack.

The host nation secured both titles as team finals took centre stage at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium.

India's men fought back from 2-0 down to seal the crown with a 3-2 victory over England.

World number 24 Gnanasekaran Sathiyan, Harmeet Desai and Sharath Kamal recorded wins in the final to pip England in a dramatic contest.

Singapore claimed the bronze medal with a 3-0 whitewash of Malaysia.

The Singaporean team lost their semi-final to India, while Malaysia were beaten by England.

India had earlier earned the women's team title for the first time at the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships.

The home side, comprising Archana Kamath, Manika Batra and Madhurika Patkar, were too strong for England as they won all three rubbers in a one-sided final.

Singapore despatched Nigeria 3-0 in the third-place playoff to take bronze.

Batra later announced she was withdrawing from the women's singles event, which begins tomorrow, through illness.

A viral infection has forced Batra, the top women's singles seed, to pull out and she has been replaced by Sreeja Akula, who will pair up Sharath Kamal and Madhurika Patkar for the mixed and women's doubles, respectively.
