Emma Terebo continued to prove one of the swimming stars of the Games, storming to victory in the women’s 50 metres freestyle final.

The 20-year-old held off the challenge of home favourite Lushavel Stickland in the sprint event, touching in a winning time of 26.41sec.

Home favourite Stickland was forced to settle for the silver medal in 26.71, followed by Fiji’s Yolani Blake in 27.16.

The men’s honours were claimed by Julien Pierre Goyetche following a tussle with his team-mate Florent Janin.

The New Caledonia swimmers touched in 23.03 and 23.13 respectively to take the top two steps on the podium.

Tahiti’s Teiki Dupont clinched the bronze medal in 23.17.

New Caledonia’s gold rush in the last swimming session also saw double gold in the 200m butterfly events.

Thibaut Mary won the men’s event as faster qualifier eased away from his rivals to triumph in 2min 02.29sec, over four seconds clear of Tahiti’s Guillaume Vermorel.

Bronze was earned by Fiji’s Temafa Yalimaiwai, who clocked 2:10.25.

New Caledonia celebrated a one-two in the women’s event that followed, Julie Decaix taking the title in 2:30.94.

The 16-year-old was followed by team-mate Maiana Flament in a time of 2:31.24.

Fiji’s Rosamarie Rova, also 16, completed an all teenage podium by touching home in 2:32.04.

Flament had earlier topped the podium in the women’s 400m freestyle event by a comfortable margin.

The 17-year-old pushed clear of her challengers during the event to eventually touch the wall in a winning time of 4:27.96, nine seconds faster than silver medallist Matelita Buadromo of Fiji.

Open water swimming champion Charlotte Robin joined her compatriot Flament on the medal rostrum, as she secured bronze in 4:42.35.

Terebo and Janin helpedseal New Caledonia’s sixth and final gold medal of the evening in the mixed 50m medley relay with team-mates Thomas Oswald and May Toven.

The quartet ended in a winning time of 1:49.18, with Fiji and Tahiti following in 1:51.81 and 1:53.33 respectively.

Fiji earned double gold in the 100m breaststroke events, Moana Wind and Taichi Vakasama earning titles.

Vakasama finished in a winning time of 1:02.84 in the men’s event.

His team-mate Epeil Rabua followed on 1:03.89, while Papua New Guinea's Ryan Maskelyne placed third in 1:04.24.

Wind prevailed in the women’s competition in a time of 1:13.79.

Tahiti's Poerani Betrand and American Samoa's Tiali Scanlan rounded off the podium in 1:14.23 and 1:15.08.

The men's 400m freestyle title was earned by Tahiti's Rahiti De Vos in a winning time of 3:56.36.

De Vos ended four seconds clear of Cook Islands' Wesley Roberts, who won silver in 4:00.97.

Samoa's Brandon Schuster completed the podium in 4:03.22.

New Caledonia finished comfortably top of the swimming medals table after earning 25 gold medals.
