Mihkel Räim of Saaremaa took top spot in the men’s individual road race by little more than half a second at the Island Games.

The 26-year-old, who also won Tuesday’s time trial in Gibraltar, clocked 2hr 15min 01.29sec.

That proved enough to finish ahead of Isle of Man's Nathan Draper, who was 0.67 back, while Saaremaa’s Steven Kaif took bronze.

There was further delight for Räim and Kaif as they claimed team gold alongside Karl Patrick Lauk, Jörgen Matt and Oskar Nisu.

Isle of Man earned silver, while Jersey took bronze.

In the sailing, there was a gold medal for Ynys Môn’s Dominic Breen-Turner in the laser standard rig, with Clementine Thompson of Guernsey winning the laser radial rig.

Menorca’s Marina Olives proved far too good for her rivals in the women’s 3,000 metres steeplechase, recording a time of 10:58.28.

That saw her finish nearly two minutes ahead of nearest rival Ffion Jones of Ynys Môn.

Jersey lead the way in the medal table with 26 golds, 23 silver and 24 bronze.

Faroe Islands and Isle of Man are second and third overall with 22 and 20 golds, respectively.
