Defending champions Australia are the world's top ranked side and arrive in the English city as the favourites.

The Diamonds open their World Cup with a Group A match against Northern Ireland, while Commonwealth Games gold medallists England go up against Uganda in Group D at M&S Bank Arena.

They are two of eight matches due to be held on the first day of the competition, which concludes with the final on July 21.

Mentor is targeting a repeat of the 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medal match, which England won in dramatic fashion courtesy of a late goal from Helen Housby, in the World Cup showpiece.

"I'd love to just steam ahead with a 15-goal win in the final," Mentor told BBC Sport.

"The dream would be to play Australia in the final but I'm happy to play anyone, as along as we're there. 

"Nothing less will be good enough."

Australia's bid for a 12th World Cup crown looked to have suffered a blow earlier this week when captain Caitlin Bassett suffered concussion in an accidental collision in training.

Bassett is expected to be fit to face Northern Ireland as she gets ready to lead a team featuring nine World Cup debutants.

Australia and Northern Ireland are in Group A alongside Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka.

Four-time winners New Zealand will face Malawi, who beat them at Gold Coast 2018 in one of the biggest upsets of the tournament, Barbados and Singapore in Group B.

Group C includes Jamaica, South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago and Fiji, while England and Uganda are joined by Scotland and Samoa in Group D.

The top three teams in Group A and B will move through to play in Group F, while the top three sides in Group C and D will go into Group G in the second stage.

Teams finishing first and second in Groups F and G will go through to the semi-finals on 20 July.
