A second-half brace from Christian Pulisic helped the United States overcome Jamaica to reach the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football Gold Cup final.

Hosts United States took an early lead in the fixture at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, which was a repeat of the 2017 final.

Patient build-up play led to Pulisic being freed down the left wing, where he crossed for Weston McKennie to head the host nation in front after nine minutes.

The US had come into the tournament with concerns over their form, after missing out on last year’s FIFA World Cup and suffering defeats to Jamaica and Venezuela in warm-up matches.

Memories of the 1-0 loss to Jamaica became more distant when they doubled their advantage early in the second half.

A deflected cross fell kindly for Pulisic, who went from provider to goalscorer as he turned into the net from close range.

Jamaica caused home supporters concern when Shamar Nicholson pulled a goal back in the 69th minute.

It set up a nervy conclusion, before Pulisic eased American nerves with a close-range finish three minutes from time.

Victory takes the United States through to the final against Mexico, which will be played on Sunday (July 7) in Chicago.

It will be the first Gold Cup final between the two heavyweight teams in the competition since 2011, when Mexico won 4-2.

Mexico will be seeking an 11th title at the event, while the United States will go for a sixth continental crown.
