The United States' dominance of the Pan American Fencing Championships was underlined on day two with victories for Race Imboden and Kelley Hurley in Toronto.

Women's épée fencer Hurley had defeated her sister Courtney to claim the title in Montreal 12 months ago and she was the star of the field again at Delta Hotels Toronto Airport and Conference Centre.

Finishing with 48 points, the American topped the rankings for a second successive Pan American title.

The victory represents a record five Pan American crowns for the 31-year-old.

Having progressed through the pool stages with six wins from six, Hurley won another four matches, completing a 15-11 victory against Brazilian Nathalie Moellhausen to reach the final.

Hurley had tasted glory at the Championships before and stormed past Venezuelan Maria Martinez 15-7 to claim top honours.

Luisa Maria Doig of Peru and Moellhausen took home bronze medals.

Imboden was crowned winner of the men's foil with a 15-4 thrashing of Brazilian Guilherme Toldo.

Six successive group phase wins booked his place in the knockout stage and a semi-final triumph over American compatriot Gerek Meinhardt secured his spot in the final.

His victory against Toldo represented a third consecutive title and a sixth Pan American gold in nine years.
