Reigning world champion Shannon McIlroy of New Zealand will face Canada's Ryan Bester in the men's singles final after both players came through their last-four encounters at the Asia Pacific Bowls Championships in Gold Coast today.

The match, due to take place tomorrow, is being billed as a "Battle of the Titans" and will be a repeat of the 2016 World Championship final won by the Kiwi.

McIlroy secured his place in the final by beating Hong Kong's Tony Cheung 21-11, while two-times Commonwealth Games silver medallist Bester got through thanks to a 21-14 win over Australian star Ray Pearse.

Bester, the runner-up to Pearse in section one, had earlier defeated Thailand's Koko Ontong 21-10 in the quarter-finals.

McIlroy, meanwhile, went straight through to the penultimate round as the winner of section two.

Also determined today were the finalists in the men's fours, women's pairs and women's triples.

Hosts Australia will be represented in all three thanks to semi-final wins over Malaysia in the men's fours, New Zealand in the women's pairs and Canada in the women's triples.

New Zealand will provide the opposition in the men's fours following a last-four victory over Canada, while Papua New Guinea stand between the Aussies and glory in the women's pairs after overcoming Malaysia.

Malaysia await the home nation in the women's triples final courtesy of their penultimate-round triumph at the expense of India.

All three finals are scheduled for tomorrow.

The tournament is a qualifier for the 2020 World Bowls Championships, also taking place in Gold Coast.

Matches are being played across three venues in the Australian city − Club Helensvale and the Broadbeach and Musgrave Hill Bowls Clubs.
