Dominican Republic’s capital Santo Domingo is ready to host the Pan American Sambo Championships with three days of competition beginning tomorrow.
Days one and two will be dedicated to sport and combat sambo, and will see medals won across 27 categories at the Handball Pavilion in the Park of the East.
On Sunday (June 30), focus will switch to the Pan American Beach Sambo Championships.
There will be eight individual events and five team competitions played out on Boca Chica Beach.
In April, International Sambo Federation (FIAS) executive director Sergei Tabakov said he was confident the 2019 Pan American Sambo Championships would be held to "high standards" after taking part in an inspection trip to Santo Domingo.
During the FIAS trip, the progress of preparations for the tournament was checked.
A seminar for coaches was also held, while a number of meetings with the Dominican Republic's sports leadership took place.
Last year’s edition of the Pan American Sambo Championships was hosted by Mexican city Acapulco, where the Dominican Republic amassed an unrivalled 10 gold medals.
