Rio 2016 Olympic bronze medallist Inès Boubakri claimed the women’s foil title as action continued today at the African Fencing Championships in Bamako.

The Tunisian, also a double World Championship bronze medallist, beat Egypt’s Noha Hany 15-4 in the final at the Malian capital’s Palais des sports Salamata.

She had earlier defeated another Egyptian, Yara Elsharkawy, 15-8 in the semi-finals.

Elsharkawy was one of the two bronze medallists along with Noura Mohamed, who lost 15-11 to Hany in the other last-four encounter.

The men's sabre event was also held today with Egypt's Mohamed Amer overcoming Tunisia's Farès Ferjani 15-9 in the final.

The semi-finals saw Amer beat Tunisia's Ahmed Ferjani 15-5 and Ferjani defeat Egypt's Mohab Samer 15-8.

Ahmed Ferjani and Samer were the bronze medallists.

Competition continues tomorrow with the team events in women's épée, women's sabre and men's foil.
