New Zealand’s Tayler Reid earned victory at the International Triathlon Union World Cup in Antwerp.

Reid had finished as the runner-up at the event last year, but was able to rise up the standings today.

He featured as part of a leading group during the 750 metres swim and 22 kilometre bike section of the race.

Reid faced a tough battle on the 5km run against Sweden’s Gabriel Sandor and Chile’s Diego Moya.

The New Zealand triathlete edged clear of his rivals in the closing stages to triumph in 59min 23sec.

Sandor crossed the line just two seconds shy of the Reid to finish as the runner-up.

The podium was completed Moya, who ended in a time of 59:30.

Germany celebrated a one-two in the women's race.

Lisa Tertsch emerged as the winner in a time of 1 hour 05min 26sec, with her success owing largely to her fast run time.

The German completed the 5km course 21 seconds faster than her compatriot Laura Lindemann, second in 1:05.44.

New Zealand’s Ainsley Thorpe placed third in 1:06.08.
