Uganda's Robert Chemonges was the winner of the men's half marathon on day two of the African Beach Games in Cape Verde.

Chemonges finished in one hour 36 seconds, seeing off nearest rival Mneria Charles from Kenya.

Almost a further minute behind Charles was Djibouti's Moumin Bouh, who came home in 1:06.12.

Algerian Riham Senani won the women's half marathon in 1:18.20 as she finished 46 seconds ahead of Namibia's Haitope Lavinia.

The bronze medal was won by Ugandan Priscilla Chelangat, who clocked 1:20.25.

Tunisia won gold in the men's beach handball with a 2-0 victory over Togo.

Morocco took bronze by beating Nigeria 2-1 after edging a deciding tiebreak 3-2.

In the men's five kilometres open water competition Ben Rahou Mathieu Mathy took gold for Morocco in 1:02.18.

Tunisia's Mbarki Haithem was more than two minutes behind as he claimed silver in 1:04.27, with Ali Merouane Betka of Algeria taking bronze in 1:06.36.

In the women's event, Algerian Sara Moualfi finished in 1:11.58 to take gold ahead of Tunisian swimmer Alya Gara.

Elanouar Ayat Allah of Morocco finished third.

Morocco won the women's beach tennis by topping the group with three wins from three, as Nigeria finished second and hosts Cape Verde third.

The men's final was won by Morocco with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory against Mauritius, while Kenya defeated Cape Verde 7-5, 7-5 to take bronze.

Morocco's Othmane Djedidi won against Cape Verde's Nicholas Barros to claim gold in the men's freestyle football tournament.

Saidi Noureddine from Algeria collected bronze as he defeated Ghana's Joel Asare.

Around 1,000 athletes are participating in the inaugural Games with 42 countries represented across 10 days of competition.

Eleven sports are on the programme – athletics, 3x3 basketball, beach handball, beach soccer, beach tennis, beach volleyball, coastal rowing, freestyle football, karate kata, kiteboarding and open water swimming.

Cape Verde will compete in all 11 sports on the eastern island of the archipelago nation.
