The first half at Estádio Cícero Pompeu de Toledo in São Paulo was scoreless, with the mostly Brazilian crowd showing their discontent at the interval.

Brazil asserted their dominance in the second-half, however, with Philippe Coutinho first scoring a penalty - awarded for handball following an intervention by the video assistant referee - in the 50th minute.

Coutinho then got his second against the lowest-ranked South American side of the tournament three minutes later, heading home a well-placed cross from Roberto Firmino. 

Brazil's victory was wrapped up 10 minutes from full-time, substitute Everton Soares converting the third with an impressive individual effort. 

Group A is due to continue on Wednesday (June 19), when Brazil will hope to earn victory against Venezuela at Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador.

The Rio 2016 Olympic champions are seeking their ninth Copa América title, having triumphed at all four of the previous tournaments they have hosted.

Bolivia are scheduled to face Peru next at the Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro.

Action is set to continue tomorrow, with the remaining 10 teams at the tournament beginning their respective campaigns.
