Sweden’s team of four produced a flawless performance today to win the sprint relay as action concluded at the International Orienteering Federation World Cup in Helsinki.

Tove Alexandersson, Emil Svensk, Gustav Bergman – into the Swedish first team after Jonas Leandersson’s retirement – and Karolin Ohlsson clocked 50min 53sec.

Second place went to Switzerland’s Simona Aebersold, Matthias Kyburz, Daniel Hubmann and Elena Roos in 51:24.

Rounding off the podium were Czech Republic’s Denisa Kosova, Milos Nykodym, Vojtech Kral and Tereza Janosikova in 51:43.

Ohlsson set off on the final leg with Switzerland's Hubmann not in sight and like all the other Swedish runners, she powered round the course without error, with Roos – her equal in running speed – unable to make significant headway.

A good battle developed between Czech Republic and Norway for third place and although Czech runner Janosikova made a small mistake on the town hall steps in front of the big arena crowd, she arrived at the finish 15 seconds ahead.

Attention now turns to the first forest-only World Orienteering Championships later this year.

The event is scheduled to take place in Sarpsborg in Norway from August 12 to 17.
