Fuchs was one of 11 riders to achieve a clean opening round at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.

Riding on Chaplin, Fuchs would repeat the feat in the jump-off to boost his prospects of claiming victory at the fifth event of the season.

His time of 39.49 seconds proved enough to emerge the winner of the competition.

The Netherlands’ Maikel van der Vleuten ended in an agonising second place, after ending in a slightly slower time of 39.77.

Bart Bles, also of the Netherlands, completed the podium places.

He ended in a time of 40.11 seconds, riding on the horse Gin D.

Israel’s Danielle Goldstein and Germany’s Daniel Deusser were the only other riders to achieve clear rounds in the jump-off.

They completed the top five at the event by ending in times of 40.86 and 45.92, respectively.

The fifth-place finish saw Deusser move up to second place in the overall series standings on 115 points, just five shy of the leader Pieter Devos.

The Belgian was absent from today’s competition having competed in France.

Van der Vleuten lies third in the standings on 98 points.
